About the Intensive English Program (IEP)
Thank you for your interest in the Center for Global Languages (CGL) at Valencia Community College’s Sand Lake Center. Valencia has become an innovative leader in higher education with a national reputation for teaching excellence. With four campuses and two centers in the Orlando area, Valencia is now the fourth largest of Florida's 28 community colleges, teaching more than 50,000 students a year. Our faculty and staff put their energies into a "learning-centered" philosophy that emphasizes individual student success. The Orlando area is internationally known, making Valencia a popular place of study for students from around the world. We receive both professionals and university students from many different countries and career backgrounds.
The Center for Global Languages offers Conversational English courses for professionals. The goal of this program is for students to master the language at each proficiency level rather than to simply gain exposure to it. All students are orally evaluated prior to course commencement in order to group them according to their language level in the target language. At our facility students can enjoy a Learning Resource Center with computers, books, videos, and other useful materials, a computer lab, student lounge, and concession stand serving a variety of snacks and beverages. Adjoining the lounge on the outside is a lovely tree-canopied courtyard where students may study, eat lunch, or simply enjoy the pleasant weather.
