Jennifer J. Robertson

Jennifer J. Robertson, Director

Jennifer graduated in 1990 from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and certificate in secondary education.   She has lived and studied in Spain, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.   She has taught Spanish and English as Second Language for many years in both public schools and private businesses.  In 1995 she founded New England School of Languages (NESOL) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

NESOL was the first private language school to be licensed by the General Council of Education in Puerto Rico which served over 5000 students from 1995 to 2000. During that time, she created the Steps to Mastery English Language Program and Professional Development Series for foreign language instructors. In 1998, she was a finalist for the “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” award sponsored by Ernest and Young.   

In 2000, Jennifer sold the school to Colombia Community College in San Juan and relocated to Orlando, Florida.  She was then hired to establish the Center for Global Languages, a start-up project for Valencia Community College.   In 2002 she earned her MBA at the University of Central Florida and is currently working on a series of Spanish language textbooks for corporate and continuing education.

 

Lisa EliLisa Eli, Assistant Director

Lisa grew up in Brazil, Venezuela, and South Florida.   From her years in South America and as part of a Mexican-American family, she learned to speak both Spanish and Portuguese. Lisa's professional experience includes five years at Hilton Hotels and nine years at Valencia Community College.

From 1994 to 2001, Lisa represented Valencia Community College as an Account Manager, using a consultative sales approach to provide local businesses with relevant training programs.   As an Assistant Director for the Center for Global Languages, Lisa utilizes her sales & marketing background to promote and manage its language and culture programs.

Lisa is a certified DACUM facilitator and a certified Ziglar Education Systems instructor. She holds a B.A. in Hotel & Restaurant Management from Michigan State University and a M.A. in Liberal Studies from Rollins College, Florida.

 

Ilse MoralesIlse Morales, Coordinator, Intensive English Program

Ilse is a native of Mexico City. While in Mexico City her work experience included supervising the publication of affordable printings of literary works and free textbooks for low-income families for the Mexican government in the Ministry of Education.   She also worked in the Treasury Department, where she supervised continuing cultural workshops in English, painting, sculpture and dance for their staff and dependents.

Like many of our students, Ilse arrived in the United States with no English-speaking skills and had to learn English while starting a new career in a new country.   In the United States, she worked for several years in a travel agency supervising groups of foreign students, becoming well acquainted with the intricacies of international travel. Through her position with the travel agency, she had the opportunity to travel to South and Central America, Europe, and the Far East (Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia).

For the past 15 years, Ilse has had numerous responsibilities at Valencia Community College. She has worked in labs assisting students learning in both the Science and Office Systems Technology Departments.   She has also helped students with their specific needs in the Admissions and Financial Aid Offices.   Ilse currently serves as CGL's Intensive English Program Coordinator and brings both the knowledge and experience from her diverse background to assist our international students in their quest to learn English.

 

Alexandra Cordero

Alexandra Cordero, Business Development Analyst

Alexandra graduated from Rollins College in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Behavior. She became a part of the Client Service Center at Valencia Enterprises in January of 2005. During her tenure in the department she assisted international students with the processing of student visas, class registration and daily guidance while achieving revenue goals set by the college.

After working at Valencia Enterprises for over a year, Alexandra has moved into the role of Business Development Analyst in the Sales & Marketing Department. She has become a liaison between international agents and the Center for Global Languages by enabling them to help students worldwide further educate themselves through our English program.

Fluent is both Spanish and English Alexandra uses her Colombian and Puerto Rican background to relate to her students on both a personal and professional level. She has traveled to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Colombia.

Claudia Trevizan

 

Claudia Trevizan, Language Program Coordinator

Claudia grew up in Brazil and came to Orlando, Florida as a child. She speaks both Portuguese and Spanish. She graduated from Dr. Phillips High School with honors in May 2004. Because of her academic achievements, she received a full scholarship to Valencia Community College. Claudia recently graduated from Valencia with an A.A. in General Studies Honors degree. She plans to continue her studies and pursue a career in International Affairs.

Claudia's past professional experience includes working at the Orlando Marriott World Center, the largest Marriott in the world, and the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios as a concierge. She provided superior guest service and interacted with people from all over the world. As the Language Program Coordinator for the Center for Global Languages, she uses her organizational and multi-lingual skills to promote an efficient language program.
